Biography

With his Hip-Hop, Soul influenced, R&B flavored style of music, coupled with his love for God and his incredible vocal, writing, and arranging abilities. There is no doubt Sean Simmonds is one of the hottest new talents in today’s music scene. . Influenced by the sounds of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye , and Fred Hammond , Sean was quoted as saying, “I looked to capture an element from each of these artists”.

Born in the urban center of Toronto, Canada to West Indian parents, it was clear at an early age that Sean Simmonds was destined for greatness. As a child, Sean loved to sing and entertain others. His first exposure to public performance came at age nine, when he sang at a showcase hosted by a local shopping mall. After a stunning performance and receiving rave reviews in the local newspaper, Sean knew that he wanted to be a professional singer. At the age of fifteen, Sean joined the internationally renowned Sharon Riley and Faith Chorale . Sean’s vocals earned him a silver screen debut, selected to sing behind music icon James Brown in the blockbuster smash “Blues Brothers 2000” starring John Goodman and Dan Ackroyd .

After six years with Sharon Riley, Sean pursued his studies in business at Oakwood College (famous for giving birth to such acts as Take 6 and Brian McKnight ). While at Oakwood Sean joined the urban gospel group Chapter 5 as one of its lead vocalists and wrote two of their hits “Personal Festival” and “Tempted”. Chapter 5 garnered a national following in 2002 with its popular self- titled debut (Affiliation Entertainment). Sean was a lead vocalist for Chapter 5’s national hit “Create in Me ” which climbed to # 7 in 2002 on The Bobby Jones Top 20 national radio Countdown . In 2002, Chapter 5 was invited to join Jermaine Dupri and present at the Stellar Awards.
